Plants and Flowers in the Falklands
Some flora are unique to this part of the world...

First week - never seen this before - this is Diddledee in berry...
It is supposed to make good jelly. It is certainly good in Yoghurt

Not got many pics of local flora yet - but the cutivated ones at Sealion Island show what can be done in a conservatory!

No Falkland website would be complete without some Tusac grass...
I ought to have got Ursula in shot to give some idea of size. This is a lot taller than I am...

No sniggering at the back, please - it really is impressive. It clumps on a pedestal.
The elephant seals hide in it to get out of the wind - humans and elephants seals can give each other a nasty fright.

...and the best book about them has been out of print for 2 years.
I named the pic Ragwort but I think this is actually Patagonian Hawkweed...
very pretty, anyway - this is down on the sand dunes at Sea lion Island.

Hawkweed ?

Also in the conservatory at Sealion Lodge - magnificent roses, not a spot of blackfly... Roses in Sealion Lodge

Pigvine - berries are not good - nasty tummy ache - but pigs love the leaves of this stuff which is everywhere.
